Key Stage 2 - The Juniors
At Pattison College there are two classes at Key Stage 2 with never more than 16 pupils per class: the Lower Juniors (Years 3 and 4) and the Upper Juniors (Years 5 and 6). Our aim is to provide the widest possible education. A high standard of academic work is encouraged, combined with the opportunity to develop social and emotional skills in a small caring community within a warm family atmosphere. Our pupils progress to the Senior School as happy, accomplished, self-confident, well-mannered young people who have a respect for others.
The teaching is form based with additional specialist teaching in P.E, Music, Computing, Art and, from Year 5, French. Much of this takes place in the Senior School, ensuring a smooth transition into Year 7.
Homework at this stage is part of a partnership in learning. We encourage children to take their reading books and activities home to be enjoyed by both pupils and parents. Homework re-enforces concepts learned in class and more rapid progress is made with the support of parents. We do not set vast amounts of homework however, the pupils in such small classes work quite intensively and too much work at this stage can be counter-productive.
